Patent attorneys might not change the world, but some of our clients will. What gets me out of bed in the morning is supporting our clients make their impact in the world. To do that, they need IP and that’s where I come in: building IP portfolios; recognising value through Know-How and Trade Secrets; crafting an IP strategy to suit each client’s commercial needs and then revising it as those needs change; keeping an eye on competitors and clearing the way; and getting clients ready for Due Diligence and fundraising. Our focus is mainly Life Sciences and that is a broad church – from software to genetics. We are lucky enough to have clients in the hydrogen economy and indoor farming industries too.Skills include patent drafting and prosecution, Know-How and Trade Secrets; IP Strategy; competitor analysis, Opposition work and Due Diligence reports or readiness.

ABOUT DOM ICELY

I love to work with new technology and get inspired by my clients, whether they are lab scientists, engineers or developers. I support them by providing strategic IP advice. I aim to be clear, concise and avoid jargon. My sweetspot is spin-outs, SMEs and research institutions: I largely focus on Life Sciences and especially biotech. I’ve expanded that to cover software and electrical/mechanical in recent years as many issues in IP are universal, not necessarily sector-specific – for instance, I am very keen on Know-How capture and Trade Secrets. Contributing author on Nature Biotech paper (NBT 2975, Aug 2014) on IP Landscape for iPSCs.Since 2011, I have also been a non-executive director of Lexington Estates (a family-run property company), so I have experienced what is required to run a small business. That’s essential, as I have co-founded Impact IP; we started on 22nd Sept 2021 with a team of 6, growing to 7 in mid-Oct and, I hope, growing beyond that. Outside of work I am father of 3 boys, a Scout leader and rugby coach. Sometimes its good to have not think about work!
