ABOUT DIANA MALDONADO
I didn’t start my journey in public office thinking I had everything figured out. Like many leaders, I grew into it. Today, I help others do the same. I am a former Texas State Representative, executive leader, and founder of Candidate School—where I prepare emerging leaders to run for public office and lead effectively once elected. My career spans public office, nonprofit leadership, state government and financial advisory, giving me a unique perspective on what it takes not only to win a campaign—but to govern, influence, and deliver results once in office. During my time in the Texas Legislature, I authored and co-authored 88 bills and helped secure over $27M in state funding to support education, infrastructure, and workforce development. I was honored as Freshman of the Year by my peers and made history as the first Latina elected to represent my district. Beyond elected office, I have led organizations through periods of growth and transformation, including serving as CEO of the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Interim Executive Director of Jolt Initiative, where I strengthened statewide civic engagement and secured multimillion-dollar funding. Through Candidate School, I now focus on building the pipeline of future leaders—equipping candidates with the clarity, confidence, and tools to run strong campaigns and step into leadership with purpose. I also work with organizations, elected officials, and leadership programs to design curriculum, deliver training, and provide strategic guidance on leadership, governance, and public engagement. I am the author of The Unlikely Candidate: Breaking Barriers to Elected Office and Beyond, where I share my journey and insights on leadership, representation, and resilience. Other works include multi-author books, blogs and contributing articles on Hispanic Executive.
