As a kid, I was always taking things apartBe it smartphones, gadgets, anything I could get my hands on. My parents weren\'t thrilled when I fixed their smart phones by completely dismantling them, but I was obsessed with understanding how everything worked inside. That DIY mentality is probably what pushed me toward engineering, though I\'m still not entirely sure why I ended up choosing chemical engineering specifically.Chemical engineering just made sense when I had to pick an Engineering degree. Straight out of uni, I landed at Wood PLC and honestly had no clue what I was getting into. Started with basic deliverables but quickly got obsessed with Process Engineering. If there was one process calculation that was oddly satisfying was PSV sizing. Ended up learning quite a bit of Ms Excel and wee a bit of simulation skills.Then I did something that probably seemed mad to my family. I just packed up and moved to the UK for my Masters in ChemE at Uni Aberdeen. Been working part time at Mark and Spencer to pay the bills. Honestly, I love interacting with and helping customers. It has taught me so much about being humble and kind. The skills you don\'t really get from engineering textbooks but are probably more important than any technical knowledge. But the real game changer was my dissertation project. I modelled a comprehensive simulation model for packed bed adsorption units using Aspen Custom Modeller, worked with Genesis Energies on carbon capture stuff. Sounds fancy, but really was coding PDEs and was getting way too excited when the adsorption dynamics actually worked in the simulation. The whole carbon capture thing had me properly hooked. It\'s process engineering meeting climate action and I love seeing these complex systems come together.Simultaneously I\'m also at job hunting for a process engineering role here in the UK (Ctrl+B). I Want to be part of this shift where traditional process engineering meets all these emerging clean technologies. Everyone\'s got their own weird path, mine just happened to go from breaking phones to safety calcs to sustainability, with a lot of cricket in between. What about yours?
