ABOUT DENIA GUADALUPE BRADSHAW

My name is Denia Guadaluple. I go by the pronouns she/her/ella and I am first and foremost an advocate for inclusion. As an educator, and consultant, my praxis is about empowerment and an honoring of identity, experiences, background, ability, and the intersections of the diversity and the unique circumstances that emerges as a result of them all. UDL, DisCrit, and Intersectionality are frameworks that currently guide my work. My identity as a musician, since I was a beginner to now, a professional flutist, has not only changed my life, but has influenced my approach to collaboration and meaning making. As an English learner, music brought belonging to my life and my goal when I chose to study it in college, was to give back and pay that, along with the life giving aspect of it, forward. I currently work full time serving the students, faculty, and staff as the Department Coordinator in the Music Department at California State University, Los Angeles. I also teach part-time as a lecturer at Landmark College Institute for Research and Training. These two institutions are very meaningful to me. One, I graduated with my Doctorate in Education (‘20) and I give back to music students in the California State University (CSU)(CSU Northridge Bachelor of Music ‘10 and Master of Music ‘13); and the other institution is one I have admired for years, as it serves many of the folks I advocate for. Formerly a full-time music educator and performer, within the last 7 years I have pivoted my attention on music performance and teaching to also include the disability community and disability advocacy. As a result since then, I have dove deep into research-based theories and practices around inclusion, diversity, intersectionality, belonging, and learner empowerment. My path and trajectory is far from traditional, and it is more trail blazing than not, and as difficult as it can be I’m thankful for it. As a result of it, along with life long observations and lived experiences of “by standing” and “brush off” of loved ones, my community, and myself - it’s broadened my scope and understanding of struggle, privilege, discrimination, othering, marginalization, and oppression. As I express my passions in full circle - I am an advocate for inclusion, and my focus is on equity practices through honoring and empowerment.
