Canterbury Umbrella is a centre to support the Wellbeing of the members of the community suffering with poor Mental Health, loneliness, insecurity or other social issues. We offer a warm, welcoming social cafe, with a wide range of activities and support group. Established 40 years ago the Centre was originally funded by Kent County Council Social Services and the NHS Mental Health. Official funding reduced over the years and, in-spite of demand for the services provided increasing, all official funding ceased on 31st March 2024.My role at Canterbury Umbrella has been to control and reduce operating costs, improve revenues from the cafe and room rentals, and to develop a fundraising campaign to secure the future of the Centre.We are grateful to the J Swire Charitable Trust for a substantial donation over 3 years to 2026, and other local businesses, Trusts and individuals - further details on Thanks also to Bookers, Marks And Spencer, Nandos, TG Wholesale and Fairshare for donations of food for the Cafe and the Food Pantry.
