ABOUT DAVID JULIUS FORD

I am a Higher Education Professional with experience in Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. My Student Affairs experience comes from working in Housing and Residence Life for 4.5 years as a Residence Director. I also have experience in Student Conduct, Advising Student Organizations, Supervising Paraprofessionals, Mediation, and I was on the Hiring Committee for the Department of Housing and Residence Life. I have a Master of Arts in Counseling with a Concentration in Clinical/Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University. While at Wake Forest, I had the privilege of traveling to Vienna, Austria, to study the four Vienna Theorists-Freud, Frankl, Adler, and Moreno. I have earned my Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision at Old Dominion University. I was a Graduate Teaching Assistantship which afforded me the privilege of being the instructor of record for undergraduate Human Services Courses. I also provided academic advising for Human Services undergraduates in the Darden College of Education and coordinated BIG SPLASH, our monthly Counseling Seminars. I was the co-instructor for several of the Master\'s-level courses and provided clinical supervision for Practicum and Internship students. I traveled to Dublin, Ireland, to study Diversity in Counseling in August 2012.My Counseling and Research interests lie in Groups, Testing and Assessment, Multicultural Concerns, College Students, Substance Abuse, the LGBTQQIA community, and persons living with HIV/AIDS. My dissertation explored the college experiences of African American males in Black Greek-lettered Organizations on Predominantly White Campuses and the role that counselors and college student personnel play in supporting African American male students. I am a classically-trained pianist and have been playing for over 30 years. I have 25 years experience as a church musician and have held several positions as Minister of Music. I am saved and I value my relationship with God.
