I manage a multi-functional group based in both the United States (Indianapolis, Indiana, and Zeeland, Michigan) and the United Kingdom (Halebank). The team provides plant support for existing manufacturing and develops new or improved synthetic routes for scale up to pilot plant and commercial production. We also provide NMR support and thermochemical analysis (calorimetry, ARSST, TSu, etc.) for the company world wide. Still active at the bench, I continue to develop chemistry in the laboratory. I have provided on site chemistry support for plant startups in both the United States and India, and pilot plant scale-up in the United States and the UK. Experience with multi ton per day scale continuous flow reactions and batch reactions up to gallons. Routinely create and submit capital work requests for the purchase of new equipment, software, and chemistry building repair and/or system upgrades. Responsible for the administration, maintenance, and new user training for a Varian Mercury 400 Plus NMR and provide NMR support for the company worldwide. ABOUT DAVID HAY
Thirty eight years of synthetic organic chemistry experience in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries as both a medicinal and process chemist. My contributions to the field of organic chemistry and pharmaceutical research have resulted in 28 U.S. Patents, 13 publications, 13 external presentations and 1 national award from the American Chemical Society. My scientific contributions as a medicinal chemist resulted in the discovery of two potential new drugs that have undergone human clinical trials, one for the treatment of schizophrenia, and the other for the treatment of hyperglycemia. As a process chemist I have designed and/or developed numerous synthetic routes that have been scaled up to kilo quantities in the lab, hundred kilo quantities in the pilot plant, and multi ton quantities in the plant. I have provided on site chemistry support for plant start ups in both the United States and India. Managed both discovery and clinical teams as a Pharmaceutical Project Manager and am familiar with every functional area of the drug discovery process from bench top to product launch. Experienced in the administration, maintenance and new user training of a Varian Mercury 400 Plus NMR. Provide NMR support for all sites worldwide.
