ABOUT DANIEL MAIER-GANT
I am an Auckland-based disputes lawyer at Chapman Tripp. My practice area is complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution, with a particular focus on construction, energy, and financial disputes. Chapman Tripp is Chambers band 1 and Legal 500 tier 1 for Dispute Resolution and for Construction, and New Zealand’s only firm in the GAR 100. I have acted on disputes concerning a range of major projects, including hospitals, highways, renewable (geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar) energy projects, natural gas infrastructure, and residential and hotel developments. I have appeared as counsel in arbitrations, the District Court, and the High Court, and acted in adjudications and independent expert processes. I have also assisted on settlement processes in both New Zealand and Singapore. Recent highlights- Advising principals, contractors, subcontractors and consultants on variation, extension of time, defect, remediation, and termination claims- Acting on disputes and prosecutions concerning the Building Act 2004 and Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013- Acting for New Zealand government entities on disputes concerning major infrastructure projects. Assisting an offshore state utility company in a dispute related to the construction of a major energy project- Acting for a major energy company in a review of a Civil Aviation Authority determination- Acting for a charity in the successful variation of a charitable trust deed in the High Court- Publishing academic work with the Construction Law Journal and Society of Construction Law. I am a member of the international debating community. I was responsible for delivering the 2024 edition of the World Universities Debating Championship in Vietnam as a Chief Adjudicator. My academic interests include infrastructure, housing, and immigration policy.
