WORK HISTORY

Jul 2018 — Present

Chairperson @New Zealand Film Collaborators

Wellington, NZ

After years of working within the film industry and creative communities across Aotearoa, I saw a clear gap: passionate, talented people from all walks of life were struggling to access gear, guidance, genuine collaboration and just make movies. The mainstream industry felt gatekept and fragmented — especially for those without connections or funding. I believed I could do something about it.So I founded New Zealand Film Collaborators — a small film club designed to remove barriers and build bridges. We started with a simple idea: empower creatives by pooling resources, sharing knowledge, and building an accessible, inclusive ecosystem for screen storytelling.Since then, I’ve led the growth of NZFC into a purpose-lead production house with a national presence. I established gear libraries, structured leadership pathways, and implemented an ethical governance framework rooted in Te Tiriti o Waitangi. I continue to oversee a network of branch teams, creatives, and both volunteers and staff, who support one another through collaborative productions, workshops, and community events, for the solo purpose to help each other make art. This work isn’t just about making films — it’s about creating space for people to belong, contribute, and thrive on their own terms.

ABOUT JONATHON DAGTAR DAVIES

Having grown up during the dawn of the internet and the rise of social media giants like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter, I’ve been fortunate to witness the evolution of digital communication firsthand. From the earliest days of web culture to the viral memes that shaped our world, I’ve developed a deep understanding of how technology connects and empowers people. One of the things ive seen is that non-profits often face significant challenges when it comes to communications and technology, with limited resources to address these crucial needs. That’s where I come in.As the Creative Tech Wizard behind Caped H, my self-run & owned non-profit support company, I focus on empowering organizations with the tools, expertise, and digital assets they need to thrive. Guided by the mantra “See a need, fill a need,” I dedicate my skills to creating impactful solutions that allow non-profits to destress and focus on their vital work in the community. From graphic design, videography, and web development to social media management, event coordination, IT support, and live-streaming, I offer a wide range of creative and technical services tailored to the unique needs of non-profits. Whether it’s designing campaigns that boost engagement, producing high-quality video content, or troubleshooting tech issues, my mission is to help non-profits organizations overcome barriers and amplify their mission. In addition to my work with Caped H, I am proud to be the founder and chair of the New Zealand Film Collaborators. This initiative is dedicated to addressing inequalities in the New Zealand film industry by fostering a supportive ecosystem where filmmakers—whether seasoned professionals or aspiring graduates—can connect, create, and grow.Through events such as workshops, screenings, networking sessions, and collaborative filmmaking projects, we aim to inspire and educate our members while providing them with opportunities to unlock their creative potential. Our mission is to nurture a dynamic and inclusive community that supports filmmakers to take risks, learn from mistakes, and ultimately succeed in building fulfilling careers in the New Zealand film industry. At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to creativity, community, and meaningful impact. Whether I’m crafting digital solutions for non-profits or empowering filmmakers to tell their stories, I’m driven by a desire to inspire and uplift those around me.Let’s connect to discuss creative collaboration, community-building, or opportunities to make a difference together.
