ABOUT COREY HUTCHINS

Corey Hutchins oversees the Journalism Institute at Colorado College, advises the Colorado Media Project, serves on the board of the state chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and consults for the Center for Community News at the University of Vermont. For nearly a decade he reported on the U.S. local media scene for Columbia Journalism Review, and he is a contributor to Harvard\'s Nieman Journalism Lab. As a former alt-weekly reporter in the Palmetto State he was twice named South Carolina\'s Journalist of the Year by the S.C. Press Association. His work has appeared on the cover of The Nation, and in The Washington Post, Slate, The Daily Beast, and the Columbia Free Times, among other outlets. He has reported on everything from the psychology of false confessions for the Juvenile Justice Information Exchange to the nuclear weapons industry for Medium — not to mention profiling the wild, drunken hobo clowns terrorizing the world\'s No. 1 tourist destination. In 2012 and 2015 Hutchins handled South Carolina and Colorado respectively for the State Integrity Investigation, a risk analysis for corruption in all 50 state governments published by the Center for Public Integrity. He authored the chapter on media in the book \"American Decades: 20••••19,\" published by Gale, and the entry on public funding for SAGE\'s \"Encyclopedia of Journalism\" 2nd edition. Each week he publishes the \"Inside the News in Colorado\" newsletter on Substack. In 2023, the Colorado Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists named him Educator of the Year.
