ABOUT COLLEEN UNG
I am a first-generation undergraduate student pursuing dual majors in Microbiology and Comparative Cultural Studies at Northern Arizona University. My main interests lie in infectious disease and global health, with a particular focus on virology. Moreover, I enjoy learning about languages and cultures— exposure to a multitude of cultures allows us to truly appreciate and celebrate the nuances between people worldwide.This led me to study Mandarin through NAU\'s Interdisciplinary Global Programs (IGP) where I will, not only develop fluency, but also have the opportunity to study abroad and conduct research in China for a year. Upon graduation, I plan to pursue a PhD in bioinformatics, with the goal of contributing to our current knowledge about zoonoses. Ultimately, I aim to combine my two passions— infectious disease and language— to develop multidisciplinary approaches against zoonotic pathogens and encourage global collaboration as disease knows no borders.
