ABOUT CHRISTOPHER DOWNES
I\'m passionate about development and realising the manifold benefits that well-planned growth can bring to an area. I have worked on a range of schemes at varying scales and complexities, with most of my experience being on strategic greenfield sites.I\'m currently supporting the planning and delivery of four Garden Communities (new towns) across Essex that will collectively deliver transformational infrastructure and over 40k homes. In support of two of these projects I was heavily involved in successful Housing Infrastructure Fund grants worth over £300m which will see the delivery of new sustainable transport connections in Chelmsford and in Colchester.Prior to this I was lead planner for several strategic new settlements in North Essex, a role funded by four local authorities, that involved project management and working closely with a range of public and private sector development professionals. I have a thorough knowledge of the planning system including appearances as an expert witness at Local Plan examinations and public inquiries.
