ABOUT CHERYN THOUN

The views expressed here are my own.My passion for the field of integrated marketing and communications is only matched by my dedication to developing and leading the best teams. Although it may sound counter-intuitive for a communicator, one of the greatest keys to my success is an ability to listen and learn before acting. This ability to listen has allowed me to successfully transfer my marketing and communications experience to several different industries over the past 20 years – from developing stakeholder and communications strategies for non-profits, to senior roles in the public and private sectors including the City of Toronto and the Toronto Transit Commissio (TTC).Throughout my career in the communications field, I have never stopped learning and growing. In addition to a robust toolkit of technical skills, I also believe the following to be critical to my success in communications, regardless of the industry:• I love to lead – but also have the maturity to “know what I don’t know” and to leverage and promote team members who have skills and knowledge I don’t.• I get energy from challenges and being part of the solution. • I succeed by helping others shine – it’s not about me.• I have an ability to “slow down the rotation of the earth” – well, not literally but figuratively, and it allows me to tackle a crisis, challenge or people issue with a calm and thoughtful response.• I am passionate about client service excellence – whether for the public, customers or my internal clients, and I breathe this into everything I do.I welcome the opportunity to connect with new business acquaintances who share a similar passion for their work.
