ABOUT CHARISSE CARNEY-NUNES

I lead people, deliver results, and make change in the STEM Education enterprise and public sector. I am a lawyer-turned-policy and business operations leader, now a senior executive focused on STEM Education and Workforce Development.Throughout my 20+ year career at the National Science Foundation, I have advocated for programs, policies, and management approaches to advance the strength and vitality of the U.S. STEM enterprise and its workforce. As a senior executive in the federal government, I am results-driven, highly collaborative, and skilled at leading people and change. I am also committed to leadership in my volunteerism, as evidenced by my work Lincoln University (PA) and its Alumni Association and non-profit board service. Key achievements throughout the course of my career include:• Leading an agencywide strategy to accelerate spending to support a national economic recovery initiative resulting in increasing spending by over $150M per quarter while designing processes to account for nuances for measured exceptions for research and related activity expenditures that was modeled by the White House OMB governmentwide.• Leading the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program in successfully completing its massive application cycle by designing creative management approaches after returning from an unexpected five-week work stoppage due to an appropriations lapse.• Increasing membership in the local chapter of the Lincoln University Alumni Association by more than 400% as its president and later serving as the National President and now as a member of the University\'s Board of Trustees.• Authoring multiple award-winning children’s books to advocate for civic engagement and empowerment and serving as a reader, speaker, and presenter to thousands of children and families nationwide from approximately 2005 – 2020.
