ABOUT CATHERINE SIMONEAU
I am Head of the unit Technologies for Health at the European Commission Joint Research Centre. I am embracing the challenges and unique opportunities to boost the value of the JRC as a whole in the policymaking arena of Health from human health to planetary health This role builds on my previous positions first creating and heading a European Reference Laboratory and then moving in 2016 as senior expert in knowledge management in health and consumer protection, and being deputy head of unit for six years in communication. I have extensive experience in chemistry, nutrition, chemical engineering and food toxicology. I have a long track record of scientific publications and presentations worldwide in various languages as well as in EU funded projects, chairing scientific committees, organising stakeholder international events and outreach. I have been active at the EU regulatory level and a member of numerous scientific working groups in food safety, risk assessment, and measurements/ metrology. My work includes a lot of communication in and outside the EU, to different types of audiences or stakeholders, so my skills extend to being able to phrase scientific results or recommendations into briefings in the political or public arena. It is also an extraordinary human experience to work with people from so many different backgrounds and cultures.
