ABOUT CAROLYNN MUCI

You probably would never guess I was a computer programmer in college. Not many communications professionals were math majors but this skill set, this ability to seek and analyze data, has set me apart throughout my career. My philosophy has always been about staying “open” to new ideas and opportunities. I have a curious nature and am more interested in understanding why things happen than that they happen. I’ve held various communications leadership roles and what they all have in common is telling a good story. Whether it’s change communications, email campaigns, technology adoption or counseling the C-Suite, I gather my facts, analyze the data and turn it into a compelling message that motivates people to act. While some communications professionals may express fear around AI, I see possibility. I’m all for using technology and data-informed content — though I’m not (yet) convinced AI can assess a specific organization\'s culture, the internal formal and informal communication networks, a company\'s particular objectives or employees\' motivations. I grew up a military dependent and attended more than 12 schools. I learned resilience. Change is uncomfortable and brings trepidation, but it’s an opportunity to meet new people and learn from them — and I soon find my equilibrium resets. I believe my experience growing up also led me to approach travel differently. I love to make local connections that open doors to serendipitous experiences, such as a conversation with a restaurant server, who introduced me to the owner, who connected me with an expat gallery owner who shared his personal collection of artifacts and the history behind the local crafts.
