ABOUT CARISSA BAYACK
Hi, my name is Carissa! I am a first-generation undergraduate student at Binghamton University, majoring in English and Philosophy, Politics, and Law (PPL) with a minor in Human Rights.As Intern Coordinator and a Senior Intern at the Upstate New York Policing Research Consortium (UNY-PRC), I collaborate with a team of interdisciplinary scholars to critically examine the carceral state. Under the mentorship of Dr. Laura Warren Hill, I research wrongful convictions in the United States. I also assist with archival projects that expand public access to research tools and resources, and mentor and train incoming interns, supporting their academic and professional development. In addition to my research, I serve as the 20••••26 Managing Editor of the Binghamton University Undergraduate Journal (BUUJ) at Binghamton’s External Scholarships and Undergraduate Research Center. I also work as a Writing Center Tutor, supporting peers in developing their writing skills across various disciplines.I am a proud McNair Scholar and a member of Binghamton’s English Honors Program. After graduation, I plan to pursue a PhD in English, focusing on prison literature and carceral studies.
