Spell check can’t catch everything. You need a human to, for example, tell the difference between affect and effect, bemused and amused, or to know that bear and bare feet are two very different things. And that’s a job for a copyeditor.(For the record, the funniest typo I ever found was monkey market funds.) Even after 12 years as a professional copyeditor (and years working at student publications before that), I still get a rush from finding mistakes others have overlooked, or helping an author polish their prose so it shines.
