WORK HISTORY
Regional Business Analyst, Us West & Canada @Elsevier
As a Regional Business Analyst at Elsevier, I support revenue growth across the US West and Canada by delivering strategic analysis for major renewals and new business initiatives in Journal Sales and Open Access publishing. I partner with sales leadership, account managers, and customer success managers to identify risks, consider negotiation strategies, and build data-driven value propositions for key accounts. I support ~$55M USD in ARR. I specialize in Read and Publish commercial deals, and using usage and publishing data as variables to determine risk and identify areas for growth.Big fan of a Pivot Table and Power Queries.

ABOUT CAL MURGU
I’m a Business Analyst at Elsevier, working with universities, governments, and other research institutions across Canada and the United States (west of the Mississippi). My role sits at the intersection of data, publishing behavior, and commercial strategy. Whether it’s supporting large renewals or making the case for a new Read and Publish agreement, I make sense of disparate data for internal and external stakeholders so that they can make sound decisions during negotiations. I enjoy numbers and using them to tell data stories. I also love to socialize with smart and dedicated people that challenge me to be better. It\'s a privilege to work with librarians and academics, and a joy to collaborate with my dedicated colleagues at Elsevier.I\'m a relative newcomer to the corporate world. Before Elsevier, I worked as an academic librarian in the United States and in Canada (first in Florida, then back home in Ontario). As a result, I understand how libraries, research offices, academic leaders, and faculty approach research, data, and publishing. My background helps me build trust and tailor support in ways that align with institutional goals, not just our products (which are world-class, by the way!)I’m especially interested in using analytics together with pricing and user behavior to build compelling narratives that support commercial strategy.
