I lead our Nature and Biodiversity team’s Geographic Information System (GIS) service; utilising GIS and location intelligence to help our clients achieve more inspiring and environmentally cognisant designs. I have been involved in numerous and varied projects, delivering spatial analysis and modelling in areas such as habitat mapping and assessment, satellite image interpretation, and ecological constraints and opportunities mapping for both UK and international projects. This has included using GIS to help clients determine their requirements to achieve Biodiversity Net Gain for planning, as well as leading on using data modelling to identify issues and predict impacts, such as avoiding impacts of lighting on wildlife, in order to find workable solutions that can be fed into evolving designs. I have gained experience in using GIS and spatial analysis to inform strategic regional planning decisions that consider the natural environment to ensure more environmentally sustainable developments, such as through the development of Environmental Zoning Plans for terrestrial, coastal and marine environments. I have also gained experience in providing key environmental input into numerous international coastal giga-projects, including providing biodiversity inputs into designs at an early strategic planning stage, as well as helping to deliver strategic environmental priorities and assessments, impact mitigation and ecological risk management advice, to help deliver environmentally aware master planning. This has been key to providing proactive advice to clients on how they can avoid and minimise environmental impacts throughout the life cycle of projects – from the strategic planning stage through masterplanning, construction and operation. This both minimises project risks and costs and helps clients to achieve international environmental best practice, including the International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standards.
