ABOUT BRITT DIONNE
Psst! Get to know me better at brittdionne.com.) Warning: most communications will kill you. Like,*dead.* Yes, really. You, my friend, will most likely be bored to death by most of the communications-oriented things you read. Don’t believe me? Then consider just about any email you receive this week, whether from your boss, company, pal or bank. And ask yourself: Was it even a tiny bit engaging? Thrilling? Memorable? Or was it a snooze-fest of galactic proportion? Here’s the thing: I think communications can be brought back from that dark, deathly boring place. I think it can be something that actually helps, engages and inspires people. And I’m out to make it happen. One. Word. At. A. Time. Throughout my 18-year career in communications, writing, PR and branding, I’ve partnered with people and organizations to define a vision, create smart communications strategies and find the right words to express it. All that with the goal of creating preference, changing minds or even making an emotional connection. That’s true whether I’m coaching a spokesperson for a press interview, writing company-wide communications on behalf of a CEO, creating inspiring online content for the world’s largest retailer, telling a start-up’s story over social media or coming up with a point of view for the New York Times in under an hour. And then there’s the whole brand voice piece that’s so close to my heart. Which is too much to get into here (and why I talk about it on brittdionne.com). But essentially: people are people. All over the world, every day, no matter their job, industry or title. And it’s time to communicate with them like people again. So, I challenge you to try one thing: Write something with the intention of connecting with the person on the receiving end. Have fun with it. Channel your inner human being. I know it’s there underneath all that corporate-speak and industry lingo we’re so accustomed to. And, yeah, it might not be easy. But I believe in you.
