Formerly Professor of Education at the University of Strathclyde. Main roles included teaching students towards their Postgraguate Diploma in Education (PGDE);conducting research on a range of educational issues including school improvement, Inclusion, pedagogy, mixed ability teaching and primary-secondary transition; writing, including books aimed at teachers, reseach reports, articles for educational journals and articles in the educational press and in national newspapers; supervising Mastrs and Doctoral students; leading continung professional development (CPD) for teachers and educational leaders, mainly with schools and local authorities and contributing to media, TV, radio and press on educational issues. In addition, I have worked recently with an Erasmus project on the topic of How Children Learn and am acting as a \'critical friend\' to a family of schools in the West of Scotland. My most recent publication was for the Commonweal Project leading up to the Scottish Independence Referendum.
