Assess standards & implement reactive Maintenance Lists to rectify shortfalls•Serve as part of the Project Management Committee (Capital Projects) & Planning Operations Groups for both ZoosSA properties•Advise Operations Manager on improvements, equipment requirements & developments to ensure Zoo presentation continues at a high standard•Advise, guide, assist, encourage & mentor Horticultural Staff to reach their full potential including Staff Appraisals, training & development•Project Planning & Implementation - Assist with research, plan, design, interdepartmental & architectural liaise, budget, plant sourcing & selection according to requirements / region / toxicities; purchases, layout, plant out, irrigation, substrates & mulches, exhibit decoration / furniture (Logs, rocks, perching etc.), aquatic materials & electric fencing•Design, develop, establish & maintain a designated area within the zoo as per Horticultural Trade Job Description & Round Policy & Procedure to benchmark standard including Proactive & Reactive requests from keeping staff; Minor New Works & Capital Projects •Update Policies & Procedures for all Horticultural Rounds, covering Daily Work Procedures, Program Maintenance (Seasonal), Regular Maintenance & Horticulture Round Lists for all current sites – i.e. Lists of sites responsible to each individual staff member, all irrigation controllers relevant to each site •Sit on panel for Careers Workshops. A quarterly presentation to High School students on the roles & responsibilities of employment options in Zoological Horticulture across ZoosSA.•Take guided Botanical Tours of the Adelaide Zoo.

ABOUT BRENTON PIKE
Born in Adelaide, Brenton recalls always having a keen interest in flora and fauna, but never imagined ever getting an opportunity to work in a zoo. Starting his career as a Sydney based musician in the Royal Australian Navy, Brenton was able to travel quite extensively, particularly through the tropics which ultimately increased his interest in the unique and diverse botanical world.Brenton began following this interest by studying correspondence while sailing the world, and then once back in Sydney in his last year of naval service, he created an opportunity for himself through a horticultural work placement at Taronga Zoo. He returned to Adelaide to complete his trade and post trade studies and worked as a head gardener with local Government until 2001 when an opportunity became available at Adelaide Zoo.
