Baldwin City, KS, US

As Executive Director of Marketing at Baker University, reporting directly to the Executive Vice President and COO, I steer a fully in‑house marketing and communications organization that unites creative, digital, web, PR, and social functions into an internal‑agency model. I oversee a multidisciplinary team of full‑time, part‑time, and fractional professionals responsible for serving all campus clients—including the four academic schools, Advancement and Alumni, Athletics, and the Wildcat Wearhouse—while directing a comprehensive website overhaul to strengthen brand equity and boost enrollment conversions. My role encompasses end‑to‑end content production through an on‑campus studio, rigorous brand governance, data‑informed campaigns for donor engagement and student recruitment, and cabinet‑level counsel on reputation, crisis response, and strategic storytelling, ensuring Baker’s marketing remains cohesive, agile, and aligned with institutional goals.

ABOUT BRANDON K. MILBURN

I currently serve as Executive Director of Marketing & Communications at Baker University, where I lead an in-house team responsible for brand strategy, digital marketing, web, public relations, social media, and creative production. Higher education is complex and often uncertain, and my role sits at the intersection of institutional legacy and necessary change. I focus on connecting long-term strategy with practical marketing execution that strengthens brand equity and supports sustainable enrollment growth. In spring 2025, I was elected by my colleagues to serve a one-year term on the President’s Executive Cabinet. In that role, I work alongside senior leadership and members of the Board of Trustees to help align communications, institutional priorities, and long-term strategy. The experience has broadened my perspective beyond marketing and into enterprise-level leadership and governance.I manage a multidisciplinary team responsible for end-to-end content development, including video and digital production through our on-campus studio. I am also leading the university’s first comprehensive website redevelopment in nearly a decade, centered on user experience, search visibility, accessibility compliance, and conversion performance. It is a complex, cross-campus initiative that requires coordination across academic leadership, athletics, advancement, and executive administration to ensure consistent messaging, measurable performance, and institutional alignment.I continue to learn in the process, and I am motivated by building teams and systems that position the university to compete thoughtfully in a changing higher education environment.
