ABOUT BINU CHERIAN

Binu Cherian is the IT Director for Core Application Platforms at Consumers Energy, a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest electric and natural gas utilities in the United States. In this role, Binu has leadership responsibilities for multiple technology platforms and services, including SAP (digital core of company operations), Database Platforms (for IT and Operational Technology), Enterprise Applications, Middleware Engineering, and IT Deployment Management. Binu oversees a team of about 60 employees and contractors across the United States, Canada and India. Binu is known for his ability to build strong relationships, guided by principles of integrity, authenticity, and empathy. Binu is a technology leader with strong business acumen. Prior to his current role, he has managed and led teams across a variety of technology product lines including SAP, Work Management Systems, Outage Management Systems (OMS), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and Field Systems. He has depth of knowledge and experience across the application landscape, including development, operations, and integration. His industry experience includes electric and natural gas utility in a regulated environment, IT consulting and technology services, and retail. Binu is serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Wayne State University Alumni Association, Chair of the Board Nominating Committee, member of the Bylaws Committee, and past member of the Alumni Awards Committee. He served as a Corporate Mentor at Wayne State University’s Mike Ilitch School of Business. He is a member of the SIM Detroit Professional Development Committee for the RISE and SOAR leadership mentoring programs, and a member of the TIBCO Customer Advisory Board. Binu is an affiliate alumnus of the MIT Sloan School of Management having completed ACE-MIT, an advanced executive leadership program in Management, Innovation, and Technology. Binu earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, and a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree with a specialization in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Madras. He is a graduate of the SIM RISE Leadership Development Program. He holds various professional certifications including ITIL Practitioner, and Master’s Certificate in Project Management. Binu holds the grade of Senior Member with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and is a member of the Computer Society.
