ABOUT BERNHARD KOWATSCH
Bernhard is the Director Global Accelerator and Ventures at the UN World Food Programme (WFP). He leads WFP’s global innovation function, overseeing the Innovation Accelerator, corporate innovation management, and ventures teams worldwide. Bernhard created the WFP Innovation Accelerator in 2015 and scaled it into one of the world’s largest social impact startup accelerators, running 15–20 programs annually across critical global challenges such as hunger, climate change, primary healthcare, gender equality, and emergency response. By 2025, its portfolio of startups and innovations had improved the lives of more than 132.5 million people globally, mobilizing over $383million of investments by partners into ventures. He also co-founded the award-winning fundraising app ShareTheMeal, which has raised more than $200 million, engaged 2M+ users, and was named Best App of 2020 by both Apple and Google. Prior to joining WFP, Bernhard worked at the Boston Consulting Group, advising leading technology and industrial companies on new business creation, digital innovation, and go-to-market strategies. Recognized as a thought leader in social impact innovation and technology, Bernhard has shared his insights through his TED Talk (1.7M+ views), and as a speaker at the World Economic Forum, SXSW, XPRIZE, and COP. He is also a LinkedIn Top Voice with followers and serves on advisory boards for global innovation, technology & impact initiatives.
