ABOUT BERNARD GONSALVES

Bernard holds over 35 years of Airline & Air Traffic Management experience including front-line Industry operational background in a global route and airport network. He has managed & served in leadership roles in Airport, Airline Network control, Flight Dispatch, Fuel Efficiency & Air Traffic Management functions & programs with Air France, Singapore Airlines, Emirates Airline and Oman Air. Having served with over 12 years of global industry experience with IATA & CANSO, he carries a broad and varied exposure to the needs and wants of a global network of Airlines, Airports, the Terminal Area and Enroute domains. Over a 9-year career with IATA, HQ Montreal, he has worked and led through industry representation that includes Member, Advisory Committee to the Board, NavCanada, US NextGen Global Harmonization Group, SESAR B4 package on Trajectory Management, positions on several ICAO Planning Groups. He has led implementations that include the first-ever Satcom Voice deployment in Canada for ATS, developed a Track Structure for northern Canadian airspace, implementation of the random route program to North American system airports. He also worked with Transport Canada to ratify a National Airport Policy for Canada. He convinced NavCanada to consider ADS-B as a viable cost and performance alternative to Radar. As member of the start-up IATA Fuel Efficiency GAP analyses team, savings in emissions and fuel- in the order of $200m annually resulted. He conceptualized and launched the iFLEX program which revolutionized the ATM focus in migrating from a fixed route structure to a Business Trajectory model. As Assistant Director, Technical Affairs, CANSO, he was responsible for ICAO Liaison function and Observer to the ICAO Air Navigation Commission. He holds a B.A.(Hons) Economics degree, an IATA Diploma in Airline Management and holds multiple flight dispatcher ratings including FAA Airman Ratings & Flight Dispatcher licensing through DGAC France, Transport Canada.
