ABOUT BENJAMIN GRANT
As a career electrician, I have spent much of my time in the industry on the tools. I really love the hands-on work. I have been privileged to complete an apprenticeship and work alongside some truly great electricians. I pursue excellence; while perfection is a myth and totally subjective, excellence is achievable and definable. Because of my approach to my work, I am well-suited for inspections; they require a different set of skills than that of an installer. As an inspector, I think about what was and what could have been because I am trying to understand what the issue is. This type of thinking highlights elements of construction and makes problems and errors stick out like a sore thumb. It\'s unrealistic to expect everyone to think like me, but it\'s how I think and it has its critics. I don\'t hold fast to the belief that it\'s my way or the highway, but I do recognize the dangers in the construction industry and am absolutely certain that improvements can be made. Anyone who has worked with me or spoken with me gets that. I want to improve safety, simplify processes, and ensure that things are done well. I believe in transparency and accountability. Honesty is the best policy. A maxim I hold dear is: in the absence of information, there is imagination. While this is great for a child discovering play, it doesn\'t help those who are looking to learn a new skill. Access to good quality and accurate information is something I am passionate about making available. I do this by sharing my thoughts, showing and demonstrating, talking and discussing. It\'s difficult to share with a mass audience; due to my skills and the real-world limitations on time and money, I often work alone and can\'t pass on experience—another problem that many in the industry can relate to. But I do try to get my knowledge out there by engaging in topics, accepting opportunities to work with people, publishing content, and most recently, developing an innovation I think will really help the industry
