ABOUT BEN DAVIS

I strongly believe that, in order to best understand and develop opportunities with potential partners, a close involvement in basic research and in active collaborative drug discovery projects is required. As such, my role combines both Research Fellow and Director of Business Development. An exciting aspect of combining these roles is being able to work in a dynamic manner with our collaborators to tackle some really challenging drug discovery targets. My main research focus is in the development and application of Fragment Based Lead Discovery (FBLD) approaches to early stage Drug Discovery, especially when applied to more challenging classes of proteins and other macromolecules such as RNA. In particular, I\'m interested in the use of NMR and other biophysical techniques to probe molecular interactions.I\'m also involved in developing strategies to more readily bridge the gap between fragments and \"classical\" hits and leads, and in the identification and structural characterization of ligand:receptor interactions by NMR and other biophysical methods. Since 2001, I have been heavily involved in the development and application of fragment based lead discovery technologies to a wide range of therapeutic targets. My background was originally in protein folding, and I maintain a strong interest in this field. I also have a long-standing interest in small molecule-RNA interactions and RNA structural biology.I have published more than 30 scientific papers, and have written six book chapters on protein-ligand interactions and FBLD. I frequently speak at scientific conferences, mostly on protein-ligand interactions and FBLD, and have taught postgraduate courses on SBDD and FBLD at York and Oxford Universities. I\'m also on the Scientific Advisory Boards for various organizations, and am currently a member of the BBSRC Pool of Experts.Specialties: Biomolecular NMR, biophysics and molecular interactionsFragment Based Lead Discovery technologies and applicationsORCID ID
