ABOUT BELINDA CLARENCE

My research and teaching interests lie in law and technology, equity and trusts, corporate governance, and cross-border litigation. My research explores the extraterritorial reach of equity in corporate accountability, and the evolving nature of sovereignty in a digital world. My PhD examined how equity can assist in controlling corporate malfeasance through cross-border litigation. I have a strong background in both law and technology. Before transitioning to academia, I worked as a design and software engineer in telecommunications and medical devices, giving me a unique interdisciplinary perspective in my research and teaching. I have played a key role in developing courses in law and technology at RMIT, leveraging my expertise in engineering and law. I am a passionate and innovative educator, having led improvements in courses to increase student satisfaction. My contributions to leadership, learning and teaching have been recognized with multiple awards, including the RMIT School of Law\'s Dean’s Merit Award for agile leadership in the JD program (2022) and the GSBL Teaching with Technology Award (2016). I have presented research at conferences, including the Australia and New Zealand Law and History Conference and the Australasian Law Teachers Association Conference. My current research examines the Mozambique Rule’s impact on cross-border legal disputes and alternative frameworks for legal regulation in a post-territorial world. I hold a leadership role at RMIT as Juris Doctor Program Manager. I am committed to fostering a supportive learning environment and strengthening connections between students, industry, and the legal profession.
