Founding member of the Advisory Council, which has been providing an industry perspective and in-market expertise on key department initiatives. The Council’s feedback is considered a vital means of ‘grounding’ academic efforts in a manner that aligns with the needs and expectations of industry as a primary stakeholder. Members of the Advisory Council offer expert advice on strategic objectives and initiatives. The Council tracks the progress and direction of strategic initiatives with emphasis on industry outreach efforts, curriculum and the reputation of the Department. In addition, the Advisory Council offers strong positive input to matters such as employment opportunities for graduates, accreditation, leadership within and beyond the department, and more. The advice and feedback from the Council is sought during bi-annual meetings as well as ad hoc interaction throughout the academic year. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is grateful for the time and valuable insights that this group of accomplished engineers and business savvy individuals have contributed.

ABOUT BARRY JINKS

I have participated on the founding engineering and management teams and boards of public and private technology companies, crown corporations, universities and non-profits. I founded SaaS collaboration and compliance software vendor, Colligo Networks, in and retired as CEO prior to the company’s sale in 2019. Before Colligo, I led Spectrum Signal Processing to a dominant market position, guiding it from a startup to a NASDAQ-listed company with 200 employees and $40 million in sales. I spent the early years in my career as a semiconductor design engineer, then design center manager and eventually director of marketing at LSI Logic Corporation of Canada during its startup phase.Through all of that I have really enjoyed building great teams and working on technology with stellar people like my fellow investors, colleagues, researchers, board members, partners and, of course, customers. My colleagues have helped our companies to win many awards and I was personally fortunate to be honored as Ernst & Young’s Pacific Region Entrepreneur of the Year. I have been, and am currently on, volunteer and industry boards.
