ABOUT AUBREY JAYNE

I am a freshman at Vanderbilt University on the pre-med track hoping to graduate with a major in Medicine Health and Society. I graduated from University School of Milwaukee with a transcript distinction in Independent Science Research in June 2025. I completed a Senior Capstone Tower Project. My final project showcased a digital archive of Filipino Culture for Third Generation immigrants. This past year, I was honored to work alongside researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin who aided me tremendously in the completion of my 2024 Independent Science Research project. This project aimed to find more socioeconomic-friendly alternatives within our diets that mimic obesity drugs, like Ozempic, to combat the extensive obesity epidemic in the U.S. We were also able to determine the biochemical and microbiological factors that are responsible for diabetic neuropathy. My partner and I were honored to receive third place at my regional science fair and a specialty award: Certificate of Outstanding Achievement for Ability and Creativity in In Vitro Biology, issued by the Society of In Vitro Biology. I worked in the Kirby lab at MCW on a project aimed to discover the gut microbiome’s effect on amnestic mild cognitive impairment. I used QIIME to analyze the bioinframatics of our data sets. As the president and founder of MediBridge (a group aiming to address prominent global health issues), I was inspired and impacted exponentially by my once-in-a-lifetime experiences in Panama, volunteering at Nutre Hogar through the Panama Service Project. I was able to aid malnourished babies from the Indigenous community, creating an everlasting connection with 6-month-old twins, and motivating my desire to improve healthcare and access to care. MediBridge has raised enough funds through school fundraising to pay for a child in Africa’s cleft surgery, tumor removal surgery, and eye surgery. We worked with the organizations Mercy Ships and Nutre Hogar to help combat global health issues in Africa and Panama. As a member of the small but wonderful Filipino community at USM, we founded the traditional Filipino dance group, Nayon Milwaukee. We perform every year at the Milwaukee Folk Fair and the Global Enrichment Festival at USM.I have played on the Varsity Tennis team for the past four years, and was elected a captain twice. We are back-to-back state champions for division 2, and I placed 3rd individually in 2021 (D2) and 6th in doubles in 2024 (D1).
