ABOUT AUSTEN THIEN
My research in advanced manufacturing is at the intersection of process development and optimization, Industry 4.0/IoT applications, and data analytics and machine learning modeling. I am a PhD candidate at Georgia Institute of Technology whose primary research focuses on optimization and control of metal additive manufacturing and hybrid manufacturing processes. This research area combines process monitoring, welding and machining process modeling via machine learning, materials characterization, statistical optimization techniques, optimal closed-loop control methods, and a bevy of experience in hands-on operation of CNC and robotic welding systems. My further research interest include IoT and Industry 4.0 instrumentation of retrofitted manufacturing systems with a focus on IoT sensor kit development for process monitoring.
