ABOUT ASHOK JOHN

I have more than 15 years of experience in the energy sector and work with IBM Consulting as an Associate Partner. My main areas of expertise are the energy cloud transformation including digital transformation of the energy sector in terms of sector coupling of transport, building and power, “buildings-to-grid”, smart buildings and smart cities considering the political and technical framework as well as socio-technical aspects. This includes profound expertise in data management, data analytics, scenario development, programming (R and Python), development of tools for complex analysis, numeric simulation models for example BEAM² and spatial analysis using Geographic Information Systems. I managed and worked on a range of projects with strong focus on sustainability such as the support for setting up a Smart Readiness Indicator for Buildings for the European Commission Directorate-General for Energy, an impact assessment of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive for the European Commission Directorate-General for Energy, the development of an Energy Performance Directive for Buildings including certification for the Tanzanian Ministry of Energy on behalf of the European Commission Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development, a detailed energy concepts including scenario and GIS analysis of the building stock for the city of Hamburg and Washington D.C, an analysis of the implementation of obligations under Art.5 of the EED-directive and a research regarding interdependencies between housing conditions, socio-economic status and health of EU28 and its member states for Velux A/S. I studied at the faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Cologne in the field of geography with focus on public law and business studies. Currently, I am working on my doctoral thesis on transformation processes of the energy sector exemplified by buildings considering technical and socio-technical aspects.
