ABOUT ASHLEY SHAW

Innovative Indigenous relations consultant and environmental scientist with over 9 years of experience in consultation, project management, and research. I’ve worked with marginalized and Indigenous communities in the Amazon Rainforest, North and South America, Europe, and Australia. With my combined experience in field work and research, I create innovative and mutually beneficial solutions towards Indigenous rights, environmental issues such as climate change, and project consultation. As a dedicated ally to marginalized communities, I have devoted the past 9 years to understanding how to effectively collaborate with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. As a result, I can speak Cree, Michif, and French at a conversational level. I am also a Co-Chair for the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion board at the Wildlife Society. I really enjoy providing high quality and actionable insights to stakeholders and management that allow Indigenous knowledge and rights to be effectively included in the decision-making process of projects. I also take pride in understanding how environmental policies may be impacted by a multidisciplinary lens that is inclusive of diverse knowledge systems and ideas. The experience and knowledge I provide is niche in the sense that I am highly trained in the environmental sector as well as Indigenous relations and engagement. With that being said, a condensed summation of my relevant skills and experiences are: • Providing high quality deliverables to stakeholders and management that demonstrate actionable recommendations to meet reconciliation goals, including mitigation and accommodation suggestions • A strong and demonstrated understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Treaties, Scrip, and other land claims and settlement acts within Canadian legislation • An active and consistently growing knowledge base about reconciliation efforts, effective community engagement, inclusive stakeholder collaboration, and relationship building strategies • Experienced project management abilities with applied knowledge in Indigenous relations, sustainability, natural resource management, forestry, and mixed methodological research. Please see: as an example • Superior networking and relationship building skills with First Nation, Inuit, and Métis communities as well as external stakeholders, other BIPOC communities, and private and public sector partners
