ABOUT AXEL REITZIG

Axel Reitzig is currently the Executive Director of Innovation at the Innovation Center of the St. Vrain Valley School District. His core mission is to develop innovative, dynamic and high-quality programming, both at the Innovation Center as well as across SVVSD by creating and cultivating strategic partnerships, identifying and exploring cutting-edge technologies, collaborating with other SVVSD staff and departments, coordinating the diffusion of innovative programming from the Innovation Center throughout the district and beyond, and participating in leadership at the district, state and national levels. One project Axel is involved with is developing an Artificial Intelligence/Cybersecurity lab for the St. Vrain Valley Schools. He is collaborating with several colleagues as well as a team of students to pilot this at the Innovation Center in 2019-20, then begin scaling this project throughout the district beginning in 2020. The programming will be focused on creating curricular, extra-curricular and post-secondary opportunities for students, developing partnerships with industry and higher-education partners, and providing professional development for teachers.From 2014-summer 2019, Axel served as the robotics and computer science coordinator at the SVVSD Innovation Center. He developed programming at the Innovation Center around robotics and computer science as well as helped to coordinate robotics and computer science programming in the St. Vrain Valley Schools.In 2017-18, Axel served as the chairperson for the Colorado Department of Education Computer Science Standards committee. This group was tasked with drafting the first set of high school computer science standards for the state of Colorado. Overall, he has 21 years of teaching experience in K-16.
