I’m a physician, health journalist, and Chief Medical Sense-Maker focused on helping people—and organizations—make sense of complex healthcare, medical news, and emerging technologies in moments where clarity, credibility, and accountability matter most.For more than 30 years, I’ve worked at the intersection of clinical medicine, healthcare leadership, media, and governance. My work goes beyond explaining health topics; I combine clinical rigor with empathy—asking hard but fair questions that help medicine work better for real people and decision-makers. Core areas of focus include health advocacy and navigation, caregiver advocacy, medical gaslighting, and the responsible use of health AI—issues that increasingly shape trust, outcomes, and institutional credibility in healthcare.I’m the author of Health Care Choices: 5 Steps to Getting the Medical Care You Want and Need and the host of the podcast Speak Up For Your Health, where I convene candid conversations with clinicians, caregivers, educators, journalists, and industry leaders. The platform partners with organizations that value thoughtful storytelling, evidence-based messaging, and authentic engagement with health-conscious audiences.As a national speaker and strategic moderator, I’m frequently invited to deliver keynotes that translate complex health issues into practical, human-centered insights, and to moderate executive panels and fireside chats on healthcare transformation, leadership, and responsible innovation.My perspective is informed by senior leadership roles across managed care, investment banking, and medical device companies, including serving as Chief Medical Officer at UnitedHealth Group and Chief Health Officer at Starkey Hearing Technologies. I currently serve as Board Member and Governance Committee Chair at Children’s Hospital of Minnesota and Board Member at Nuwellis (NASDAQ: NUWE), and as Executive in Residence at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.In media, I bring deep experience and editorial rigor. I spent more than 16 years as a TV health journalist, delivering over on-air segments that simplified complex healthcare topics for broad audiences. I was selected to present “Healthy People, Healthy Planet” during the United States’ bid for the 2027 World Expo and served as a medical correspondent on the Blue Zones expedition to Ikaria, Greece, exploring longevity and healthy aging.
