ABOUT ANT TÜRKMEN
Expert at the United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (UNDOALOS), contributing to global reporting and evaluation of the status of the marine environment under global assessment frameworks. Lead author for the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), with a focus on the interlinkages between biodiversity, water, food, health, and climate change. Currently based in Lecce, Italy, Dr. Türkmen works with LifeWatch ERIC, a European research infrastructure providing advanced e-Science services for biodiversity and ecosystem research. He is committed to bridging science and policy to advance nature’s sustainability and resilience. His work supports engagement and collaboration among scientific communities, policymakers, and stakeholders, addressing both the challenges and opportunities brought by transformative technologies in the natural sciences. With over 20 years of experience in ecology, biodiversity conservation, the sustainable blue economy, and spatial planning, he helps shape forward-looking marine conservation strategies grounded in interdisciplinary expertise.
