ABOUT ANTON VAN DEN HENGEL
I am a research leader in Machine Learning and a Computer Vision researcher. I am the Chief Scientist of the Australian Institute for Machine Learning, and was its Founding Director. AIML was the largest ML research group in Australia at the time I stepped down as Director, and was ranked number 2 in the world for high-impact Computer Vision publications globally on csrankings.org. The group now has over 200 researchers. I am the Director of the Centre for Augmented Reasoning at AIML, which is the recipient of direct funding from the Federal Government. I formed the Kingston Group of AI Professors to provide a concerted voice for AI research in Australia and am currently its Chair.I was a Director at Amazon for 4 years, where I formed a Machine Learning research group and grew it to 25 people. This was the first machine learning research group to be formed in Australia by one of the large global machine learning companies to achieve this kind of scale.I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of SA, a Fellow of the Australian Technical Society of Engineers, and an Inductee of the Academy of the Computing Research and Education Association of Australasia.
