ABOUT ANNA J MCDOUGALL
Anna J. McDougall is a technology executive, former software engineer, and technical careers expert who first began building websites in 1995. She is an award-winning engineering leader, including winning Software Engineering Leader of the Year for the 2024 WomenTech Global Awards, and being listed in the CTO Craft Top 100 List for 2025. Her first book, You Belong in Tech: How to Go From Zero Programming Knowledge to Hired, was an Amazon Career Guide Bestseller for July 2022. She has since delivered a TEDx talk for the Technical University of Berlin and created the McDougall Method, a practical framework for AI-friendly technical interview processes. She is regularly consulted on topics of infrastructure security, AI-forward engineering cultures, and hiring strategies by some of the world’s largest brands. Following an initial career in business, Anna transitioned into technology, where her experience spans from healthtech startups to enterprise giants. She currently works as a Field CTO for IBM HashiCorp to bring enhanced compliance and speed for infrastructure and security lifecycle management. In addition to her well-rounded professional career, Anna is known for her infectious energy and authenticity in herself and her craft. She is a regular speaker at Europe’s largest technology events, and she remains actively involved in the women’s and LGBTQI+ tech communities, especially in Berlin.
