My project specifically focuses on the effects of basal cell sensing of IL-33 and fungal polysaccharides, and how these effects contribute to epithelial changes associated with airway diseases such as asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis.

ABOUT ANITA KRAL
I am a PhD candidate with extensive laboratory-based experience. My previous research focused on developing mouse models of peanut induced anaphylaxis, and understanding how the allergic response can be modulated via the blocking of Fc receptors. I have also worked with lipid-based antimicrobial formulations to improve the efficacy of treating bacterial infections and bacterial biofilms. My current research aims to understand how airway basal cell exposure to infection and inflammatory signals re-programs epithelial differentiation, contributing to the epithelial changes associated with asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis.I have a solid foundation of core immunology and microbiology techniques, an unwavering passion for fundamental research, a friendly personality that works well in team environments, and I am enthusiastic about effective science communication.
