ABOUT ANDY TILL

Legacy engineering information, for many, is an insurmountable hurdle to the successful introduction of new ways of working. Deploying the leading-edge digital technology from a reputable software supplier does not always deliver the anticipated benefits. The trailing edge process and procedures often restrain the initiative to the quicksand\'s of change. For a range of clients, I have taken a different approach to the successful delivery of Digital Twin initiatives. Understanding the relationship between the various information building blocks, value Use Cases and technology offerings, I have helped to outline an engineering information vision, which is pragmatically delivered through self-funded incremental improvements. An initiative to move on from digital paper in 2016, four years later, ended up transforming the way the Operator managed its documents, engineering tags, reality capture content and 3D models. The digital twin platform deployed in 2020 was effectively a byproduct of the transformation initiated across 5 deeply brownfield assets. The central technology team then picked up the approach to become their global standard in 2024.After leaving BP, I had the opportunity to see what others were doing in the industry. The delivery challenge between the leading-edge supplier offerings and the reality of most clients\' needs remains large. There appears to be no material difference between heavy industry, infrastructure or renewable clients.
