ABOUT ANDREA RICCI
My working experience has been focused, since the beginning, on the EAI, mainly as consultant for Telco’s, both mobile and fixed-line.I had the opportunity to grow professionally, following the evolution of this IT segment, moving from simple projects of data integration, through BAM and BPA, to the SOA and BPM, allowing for the inclusion of human tasks in the automated process definition and the real opportunity for stateful, long running, complex business process, resulting from the composition and orchestration of multiple services. The interest in SOA has been principally led by the need of a well-defined integration framework, in order to achieve a robust interoperability, between the multiple technologies of the components, often involved in the projects. It has been, first, a technical interest, then it became an approach to the business process analysis. I think that BPM takes relevant benefits from an underlying SOA integration layer, not only in terms of easy integration, but also in terms of process analysis. Indeed BPM and SOA have some synergic overlap: the business-process-driven approach, the governance focus and the continuous improvement. The main conceptual difference between the two is that SOA is oriented to decompose functional units in services, while BPM tends to recompose services in business processes. In order to govern the services, SOA introduces Registries, for the promotion of the re-use, and Policy Managers, for the enforcement of the security, the auditing and other features. In order to govern the processes BPM relies on robust stateful workflows and business monitoring.
