ABOUT AMY SIMMONDS

I have been designing for web and print for over 15 years. I started my journey in print media, starting from copy editing to get my foot in the door and working my way up to front-page designer within two years. From there, I began a four-year stint in the nonprofit world, serving as the sole web designer and developer at a mid-size organization where I went through two full site relaunches — one to migrate to completely transform our UI, and another to migrate to a new content management system.I shifted to the private sector at a worldwide agricultural GPS corporation where again, I was the sole designer and developer. In addition, I took on many of our marketing materials to move them in-house and develop a cost savings through my position, which included brochures, tradeshow materials, packaging, and even a semi-trailer wrap. Toward the latter part of my tenure there, I developed 3D models to contribute to the engineering department and their software.Shifting back to the public sector, I joined a state university as the second member of the web design and development team. I worked heavily with our director of marketing to carry our brand initiatives through our site by building empathy and understanding across academic departments to refine our over 180 subsites. At the end of my time there, we completely transformed the UI of the website to better align with best practices and modern design.Staying in higher ed, I worked with colleges and universities to increase enrollment by developing marketing campaigns with the email and form designs I curated and coded, as well as designing direct mailers according to print and mailing specifications.Presently, I work with one of the largest medical labs in the country to develop experiences that not only are helpful and easy to use but also link them to life-changing resources. As a member of the digital team and the only UX designer, it is my duty to evangelize the need for UX design and shape how UX is carried out throughout the company.
