ABOUT AMY STAHLKE

I have over 25 years of experience in compliance in the insurance industry and am currently the Chief Privacy Officer for Canada at Sun Life. My career began in law and shifted to compliance as the function gained prominence in the financial services industry. Throughout my career I\'ve held various compliance roles supporting group benefits, group retirement services, retail insurance and operational functions. I am a two time recipient of the Sun Life CEO\'s Award of Excellence. I received the award in 2022 for involvement in a project underpinning Fair Treatment of Client principles. In 2023 I was fortunate to be recognized for work on the acquisition of a virtual health care company.I volunteer my time as a member of the Tri-City Hospital Research Ethics Board where I can put my background in law and privacy to good use. The Board ensures that appropriate principles, standards and procedures are applied to research involving humans. I\'ve also worked with the Institutional Biosafety Committee for Cambridge Memorial Hospital. This Committee considers whether research is acceptable to the local community, and whether the consents used adequately presents biosafety concerns.I am a graduate of the University of Western\'s Law program, and called to the Bar in 1997. I also hold a degree in English from Trinity College at the University of Toronto.
