ABOUT AMELIA MURDOCH

I am an Economist at the Office for National Statistics as part of the Government Economic Service Degree Apprenticeship Programme, working four days a week in the Global Trade and Investment division while studying Economics part-time at the University of Kent. Alongside this, I am studying a full-time LLB Law degree with the Open University.In my current role, I focus on international trade in services, producing analysis that feeds directly into key economic statistics such as GDP and the Balance of Payments. This builds on three years of experience at the ONS, where I have delivered high-profile outputs for senior government stakeholders, including producing analysis for 10 Downing Street, and developed strong skills in econometrics, R and Python programming, and data visualisation with PowerBI.Looking ahead, I want to bring my studies in economics and law together to address global challenges in areas such as development economics, trade policy, and humanitarian or human rights law. I am especially interested in how legal frameworks and economic analysis can combine to shape fairer and more sustainable international systems. Fluent in Spanish and currently studying French, I am passionate about cross-cultural collaboration, continuous learning, and applying my skills in international contexts.
