ABOUT AMAL SHAJI KARAPUZHA MIMMM
I am an experienced R&D specialist in Additive Manufacturing (AM) Materials and Processes with a demonstrated history of working with nickel-based superalloys, aluminium alloys, and titanium alloys using Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and Electron Beam Melting (EBM) process. Currently working as a Senior AM Specialist with Materials Solutions – A Siemens Energy business, I am responsible for helping both internal and third-party customers towards industrialization and development of AM materials and processes for the production of high temperature and light-weight components for aerospace, power generation, and automobile applications. As part of Siemens Energy’s AM TEC group, I am also the process owner for IN625 and IN718 AM process and manage the MRL (3-6) release of materials for turbine and combustor applications across the business and take part in PPQ release of AM components as well.Academically, I have a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Monash University in Australia, focussing on AM of nickel-based superalloys using L-PBF and EBM AM processes. I also have an M.Sc. and bachelor\'s in Aerospace Engineering.I also possess extensive hands-on experience in different material characterization techniques (metallography, electron microscopy, X-ray Diffraction, Residual Stress Analysis, and Micro CT) and mechanical testing at room and elevated temperatures (impact, tensile, fatigue, and creep).
