ABOUT AL R.
Al has been working on healthcare, specifically integrated youth services and youth mental health, for over 10 years. They work on designing (with amazing stakeholders) building and implementing the Foundry BC platform in to Foundry centres in the Foundry Network. They also have experience implementing electronic medical record systems, call centre systems (including designing IVRs) being a product co-creating standards for mental health apps and platforms, and generally making computers, phones and websites do what you want them too. Al is particularly know for their work in stakeholder engagement, co-designing the platforms they build with young people, caregivers, service providers and leadership. Al leads an amazing help desk team to help demystify technology for folks not used to working with it, and quickly documenting and solving bugs. Al also has a long history as a micro influencer. Starting with their TEDx talk in 2012, al has delivered over talks world wide on their story of struggling with their mental health as a young person, member of the LGBTQIA+ community and a cancer survivor. They have written articles in the Toronto star, Huffington Post, Times India, and more. They story of resilience and advocacy have been featured in places like the CBC, Canada Am, Global News, Buzzfeed, Vanity Fair, and newspapers in Japan, Brazil, India, Argentina and more. They have awards like top 150 mental health change makers, Queen’s Young leaders notable runner up for Canada, and faces of mental illness campaign in 2013.
