ABOUT ALEXANDRA KAUFMAN

Currently a Senior Scientist in the Imaging Sciences core at Regeneron, working on bringing in new imaging technology to the company. Collaborative, enthusiastic critical thinker who is skilled in experimental design, implementing research projects, interpreting data, and communicating complex scientific information clearly and effectively in writing and presentations to scientific and non-scientific audiences. Winner of two predoctoral fellowships, the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP), and National Institute of Health predoctoral fellow (NIH NRSA). Completed a Postdoc at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, studying the function of a novel gene associated with hearing loss using both in vivo and in vitro techniques. As an enthusiastic team player, I have leveraged the different departments and core facilities at Regeneron to tackle research in a multidisciplinary manner. Completed a PhD in 2020 studying the role of neuromodulation in spatial learning and memory using in vivo calcium imaging and behavioral techniques. Over 15 years of experience with techniques including cell culture, confocal microscopy, two-photon microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and mouse behavior. I have a passion for science outreach and teaching, have mentored interns and volunteered at multiple science outreach organizations, including organizing a seminar series at Columbia University called Late Night Science where graduate students give talks to a general audience. I have participated in Pint of Science, Taste of Science Storycollider, RockEDU, Brain Awareness Week at the American Museum of Natural History, and the World Science fair, among others. I taught a neuroscience curriculum to middle schoolers with Citizen Schools.
