My current work explores the role of mRNA translation control in pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin in a process that requires prompt up-regulation of insulin mRNA translation. The findings from these studies may provide methods for optimizing insulin production in cell replacement therapies, or improving beta cell function in patients with type1 or type 2 diabetes.
